Biographical
For 40 years, Ian Stauffer has helped hundreds of clients who have had problems involving personal injury, insurance, employment, professional malpractice and defamation. He has worked for both plaintiffs and defendants in a wide range of civil litigation cases. He has extensive experience before civil juries. Additionally, Ian has mediated and arbitrated over 2,000 disputes.
Ian began his working life after graduating from Carleton University and Queen’s University. He taught for several years before going to the University of Ottawa to obtain his law degree. He has delivered papers and participated in practical demonstrations for many professional organizations throughout the Province.
Due to his experience, Ian has been awarded the designation of Certified Specialist in Civil Litigation by the Law Society of Upper Canada and with a Chartered Mediator designation by the ADR Institute of Canada.

Rates Information
Flat Fee (no additional charge for preparation)
Where a half day has been booked for the mediation session:
$1,800.00
Where a full day has been booked:
$3,000.00
The half day flat fee covers a 3-hour session. The full day flat fee covers a 6 hour session.
Any time engaged in a session beyond the half date or day 1 that was originally booked will be billed at $350.00 per hour.
For multi-day mediations a rate will be agreed upon by the Mediator and the parties.
Cancellation/Adjournment Fee:
If the mediation session is cancelled 5 buisiness days or less before the scheduled mediation session, half the rate of the mediation will be charged plus HST. If the mediation is cancelled the day of the scheduled mediation session a full rate will be charged.
Disbursements
All disbursements including parking, room charges, lodgings, faxes and long distance are billed. Where the Mediator is required to travel within the City of Ottawa, travel and expenses (except parking) are not charged. Outside of the City of Ottawa, reasonable economy air travel or mileage at $0.40 per kilometer is charged.
The parties share fees and disbursements equally unless a different distribution is provided for by law, agreement or Court Order. In the absence of a retainer being provided to the mediator, the law firm representing a party is responsible for that party's share of fees and disbursements.
Interest on accounts outstanding beyond 30 days will bear interest at 5% per annum.
