Biographical
Profile
Kumail is a lawyer, mediator, and workplace investigator. He mediates a broad range of legal and organizational disputes. In the litigation context, Kumail has experience mediating employment, labour, human rights, professional discipline, commercial, insurance, and personal injury matters. In addition to mediating, he acts as a third-party investigator and workplace assessor, and designs alternative dispute resolution systems for organizations.
Kumail has practised law for 24 years. In his legal practice, Kumail has conducted trials before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, and appeared before the Divisional Court, the Ontario Court of Appeal, Supreme Court of Canada and numerous administrative tribunals, including the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario. Kumail was a part-time Vice-Chair at the Workplace Safety Insurance Appeals Tribunal (2007-2012), adjudicating disputes regarding workers’ compensation.
Kumail is recognized in Best Lawyers in Canada in Labour and Employment Law. He graduated from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law in 1997, completed his LL.M. (Dispute Resolution) from Osgoode Hall Law School in 2020 and trained as a mediator at the Harvard Law School’s Program of Instruction for Lawyers. He is the President of the Co-operative Housing Federation of Toronto Charitable Fund and volunteers as a mediator with St. Stephen’s Community House Conflict Resolution Service.
